How to Build a Free Heat-Redirecting Radiator Shelf That Moves Warm Air into the Room

A radiator does two jobs at once. It heats the air that touches it, and it sends a large share of that warm air straight up the wall behind it. In many homes that upward flow is wasted. The heat climbs the wall, pools near the ceiling, and leaves the lower part of the room cooler than it should be.

Myth: You need a metal or wooden shelf for this to work. Reality: Cardboard and foil are enough. The job is simply to interrupt and redirect the airflow.
Myth: This will make the wall behind the radiator too hot. Reality: With a small gap at the back and a reflector already in place, the wall temperature stays normal.

Will this work with double-panel or convector radiators? Yes. As long as there is rising warm air, the shelf has something to redirect.
